Overall, I believe this lesson went well. Earlier in the day, I had read the book Be Nice to Spiders during a read aloud period. After the class discussed in partners and I went around to a few groups of students, I had the students go back to their desks. Once at their desks, they answered two deeper thought questions. The students who I spoke to about what they were writing were grasping what I had intended on. I was very pleased with the rest of the written answers in students' notebooks as well. Based on the assessment set forth in the lesson plan, the students met the objective. It was not, however, a perfect lesson and definitely had some areas that needed improving. But overall, the lesson turned out to be a success. The common core standard associated with this video guided my lesson. It helped facilitate what objectives should be met by the students and what to look for in my assessment. This was part of a literacy block I would use in my classroom. The block began with this lesson; looking at character change throughout a short story. Then the character change over the next few days grew. Character change across a series was the ultimate goal. The students read a book from the series and discussed how the character changed within the larger novel. Then they read another book in the series and looked at character change throughout that book; the students then looked at the changes between the two books thus creating character change across a series.
