In this lesson, I used a to-with-by model of instruction. I first modeled what I wanted the students to do in a short text read with the class on the SMARTboard. I highlighted information in the text and then put it into a Venn Diagram to demonstrate how to use a Venn Diagram. I then read the students and text and made a Venn Diagram with them. As I read the text, I asked the students to jot down the information into their notebooks. Then, I asked students to tell me what they learned from the book and made a large Venn Diagram in the front of the room. The students did this process by themselves for homework. They were given a non-fiction text comparing whales to dolphins and were asked to make their own Venn Diagrams from the information. This lesson overall went well, the students according to the assessment grasped and completed the objective. Students were attentive and seemed engaged because of the topic. The lesson did have flaws and could have been improved slightly. Overall, the students performed well.
